JUST hanging AROUND hat rack

Just a quick post
to show you what I
made my Dad
for Christmas.

I didn't take pictures along the way.
So the tutorial will be
quick and to the point.

I sanded a cabinet door purchased
at our local Restore.
Then I painted it dark taupe.
Once it was dry, I sanded it to
expose the cabinet color and
to give it a distressed/rugged
look.

My hubby was kind enough to measure,
drill holes and place the brushed nickel
knobs. I also purchased these at Restore.

I created an Up Words & On Words
vinyl design and used my
Silhouette SD to cut it out.
I applied the dark brown
vinyl and this is what I
ended up with:

hat/cap rack:

He LOVED it!
Now, I just hope he hangs his
 hats/caps on it!

Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus wooden blocks

It isn't easy toodling around Pinterest...
but, someones gotta do it!
And that I did.

Here's a peek of what I made
per Pinterest:

BUT...here is my project inspiration.
Pinned Image
{LOVE.at.first.sight}
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you,
for the inspiration!
You can view the tutorial here:
There are so many other super fun projects
on her blog.

What a great time of the year for
spiritual inspiration.
I made 4 sets of these. They are all
just a little bit different from
one another too!

Here they are:

This set is green, tan and light blue.
I sanded and distressed them with
walnut Distress Ink.
Jesus is glued to Mary
and they are all tied together
with a bow.
This set is a little taller. Joe measures
8" and Mary 6" tall.

This set is white and light brown.
They are sanded and distressed
with Distress Ink.
Baby Jesus is tied to Mary.
They are all tied together
near the bottom.

This set is white and light blue.
They are sanded and distressed
with Distressing Ink.
Baby Jesus is tied to Mary
held securely by a little bow.
They are all tied together by
a knotted triple string at the bottom.

This set is light brown, blue and white.
They were sanded and distressed
with Distress Ink.
Baby Jesus is tied to Mary.
They are all brought together
by a knotted double string near the bottom.

 What do you think?
These 4 sets will be headed to
Marketplace in hopes
of finding a new home for the holidays.

Here's What I Used:
*although they are sooo easy to alter*
2x3 framing wood piece- cut into 5" (Mary)
and 6" (Joseph) lengths
1 piece of thin slender wood (2 1/2-3" wide)- cut into 3" lengths (baby Jesus)
1 1/2" wooden ball knobs (doll heads)
1 1/4 wooden ball knobs
3/4" roundhead plugs
jute string
wood glue
craft paint-color or your choice
Distress Ink

Well...get going...make a set of your own today!!

Cabinet Door Wall Decor

I picked up two, white
cabinet doors with faux
beadboard centers on
a trip to my EVER
favorite ReStore.

I had several ideas for them. But,
they sat untouched for days, ok,
weeks.

They were already white but I still
gave them a couple coats of Krylon's
Dover White. My trim color isn't
pure white so I needed them a
slight off-white. Krylon's Dove White and
Rustoleum's Heirloom White work great
for my situation.

I used burnt umber craft paint and streaked the
indented parts of the faux beadboad center. I wanted
a shabby/worn look. It kind of turned out
like I had hoped. *sigh*

I purchased:
2 Cabinet Doors at ReStore
2 glass vases and pine cones at the Dollar Store
2 metal clamps at Ace Hardware
1 bag of brown beans &
1 bag of split peas at Walmart

This is WHAT I DID:
I placed the vase in the clamp and tightened it.
I set it on the cabinet door and measured out
where the vase was going to be placed.
Then marked where the clamp placement should be.
Then I took the vase out and marked the area
for my pilot hole with a pencil.

Umm...getting a hole in the metal clamps wasn't easy.
I unscrewed the clamp all the way so I could
make it lay almost flat.
I placed it on a scrap piece of wood.
I had to hit the marked area with
a screw...yes...a screw with the hammer to
get a pilot hole started. Then I used a tiny drill bit and
worked my way up. Then finally I used the drill and pushed
the right sized screw through.
Seriously, there has to be an easier way but~
I was using what I already had!

I put a sawtooth hanger in the center of the back
for easy hanging.

I used a screwdriver to put the clamp on the
cabinet door. I then tightened the clamp.
I used the drill for this. It was faster! =)

I filled the vase first with brown beans then split peas.
I set a pine cone on the top.

And there you have it:

LET IT SNOW sign

It's getting to be that
time of year again.
Winter. Cold. Snow.
I LOVE snow.
I don't necessarily
enjoy being cold but I
do love snow.

I decided to use an old
cabinet door and create a sign
that celebrates the funnest (is that a word?)
part of winter!

This is the back side. I painted the front before I
took a picture. Bad Carri!

I sanded it and gave it a good coat of
Benjamin Moore's Blue Spa.

Then I designed and cut LET IT SNOW
using a scrap
piece of burgundy vinyl and my
ever-so-handy Silhouette SD.
(the Cameo is on my Christmas wish list, lol)

I transferred the vinyl to the board.

Then I dry brushed Sherwin William's
Divine White over it. I peeled the
vinyl letters off once the paint
was dry.

I painted wood chip snowflakes
Blue Spa and gave them
a layer of Glitter Glue.
Gotta have a lil sparkle.
I hot glued them to the sign.
I also added a strip of dark brown
satin ribbon by hot gluing it down in the back.
I doubled up a strip of aqua/turquoise
sheer ribbon and tied it in a bow.

HERE it is:

I love it! And I'd love to keep it.
But...off to Marketplace
it goes.

Whatta ya think? Don't you love
how the dark brown gives it just
the punch of elegance this
fun sign needed?
