GOOD LIFE sign & 'nother Nascar win!

Well...how fitting! I took yet another cabinet door and redefined it today. I have had it for awhile and FINALLY decided on a phrase for it. And it's even better now that Kevin Harvick won the race today. That's 2 IN-A-ROW baby! Happy is when HAPPY wins! Woot woot. K...back to my sign. =)

I started with this cabinet door.
I loved the size at first site:

I used fine grit sand paper and sanded it.
I DID NOT prime it. I wanted the wood color to eventually come through. It's just going in my master bedroom so it should be ok.
I painted the center panel Merlot. I'm not exactly sure whose color it is but I found it at Lowe's and it's mixed using Olympic brand paint. =) Once it dried I sanded the center to expose the wood underneath. Using my Silhouette, I cut a custom design I created. I transferred the lettering to the center. I used SW's Divine White and dry brushed strokes back and forth until I was happy with the combination of the wood, the Merlot and the "white wash." I peeled the lettering off. This exposed both the wood color and the Merlot within the lettering.

(YEP...keepin' it real~~>see the mess on the dining room table??)

Within the words GOOD LIFE you can see 383. That's the Mr. & I's wedding date. I actually situated them within the design so that they would be Divine White. {heart}
I gave it all a quick sanding. And wiped it clean.

Then, I added "This Has Gotta Be The" in brown vinyl lettering to the top left corner (ish).
*I KNOW... "has gotta" is improper English* But in fairness~this is how "we" humans say it. Or at least how "I" human say it. And how the lyrics are in the song that inspired this sign. ;)

I used Brown Umber craft paint and painted two metal "thing a ma jigs" I got from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. I hot glued them to the bottom panel. I initially did it to cover up two holes made by a cabinet handle but ended up really liking them. So...I put them there because, I'm a creative genius! tee hee

And HERE it is:
This Has Gotta Be The
GOOD LIFE
383

And my AMAZING Mr. placed it on the wall for me after we watched Mr. Kevin (HAPPY) Harvick get his 2nd win in a row!

It is decidedly so...
This Has Gotta Be The
GOOD LIFE

  1. Very nice. Makes me mad that I gave away some cabinet doors I had because my husband wanted "my junk" cleared out of the garage. They really were "my treasures". :(
