Thrift Store Pedestal Plate

Scouring the thrift store shelves I stumbled across some fun little gems. At first I wasn't going to purchase them because quite honestly...WHAT?? when did the thrift store get so proud of their donations?? Okay, it isn't like they cost me a fortune but I was still hesitant since I wasn't really quite sure how my idea would turn out.

I purchased them anyway
and here they are:

I think this is/was a dice cup but I'm not real sure...the felt
bottom makes me think so. ;)

This is just a plate with a flower design carved out.

I lightly sanded both of them. I used burgundy and burnt umber craft paint and painted the flower design. Then I added a light coat of SW's Divine White to both. I sanded them again for a distressed look. I used E6000 glue and glued the plate to the "dice" cup. I let it sit with a paint can on it to create some pressure.

Here's how it turned out:

(eekk...I just realized I didn't take a pic of the top...will add later)

And yes, that's a homemade candle. I used microwavable soy wax and added cappuccino scent. =)
I tied it with a few pieces of ribbon and decided it turned out pretty cute!

Not a bad lil creation for a few thrift store finds.
