Welcome to our home- sign

Are you ready for another ReStore "redefined" project? I took a drawer front and created a Welcome sign. You may remember the LAUGH sign I made for my wall.  I made this one a little differently though.

I started out with a drawer front similar to this:

I spray painted it Krylon's Fern and sanded it. I then distressed it with Walnut Distress Ink. And it sat for nearly 2 weeks in limbo. hmmm...what shall you become?

(oh yessss....that oak table will get a face lift as soon as weather permits)

I created an Up Words & On Words design and used my Silhouette to cut it out in tan vinyl.

I transferred WELCOME to the center.

I took the Distress Ink and went over the vinyl lettering. Wiping it off and adding more back on. I was hoping to create an outline of the lettering. It's kind of hard though because it takes a while to dry and it's a little hard to wipe just the right amount off. Once I had it the way I could live with it, I peeled the lettering off being VERY careful not to smudge it. I set it outside to dry and began working on a few other projects. (hint)
Finally...FINALLY...finally...after a good long while it dried. I added "to our home" in tan lettering. Then gave it 2 coats of sealer. I figured I would set it outside by the front door.

Hopefully it sells at a show I have coming up. BUT, if not~it fits quite nicely on a milk jug by my front door. =)

Welcome to our home.

(but NOT if you're a robber, a weirdo, and/or are selling vacuums or cleaning agents.
If you are, be forewarned...I am armed with a frying pan, golf club, tee ball bat, hairspray,
meat tenderizer, HOT coffee and a LOT of pent up stress!!)

  8. I am just starting to make inspirational signs. What is a silhouette? I get my lettering fonts from various fonts on Word or I download fonts...trace around the letters with graphite or carbon under the lettering then use paint and small brush or paint pens....vinyl letters? I want to learn more.

    Thanks for any help.
