Wheresoever You Go...-a cabinet door coat rack

In gearing up for a show I went to yesterday, I created another coat rack from a cabinet door. This one is bigger then the last one with a little different style. ;) And because I was in a hurry...I didn't take any before pictures. So just sit back and enjoy the finished project! =)

Wheresoever you go, go with all your heart.

And it did sell! =) Sweetness! Hope they LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

In case you missed the other coat rack. Here is how it turned out.

You can read the tutorial for this coat rack here.
It also has sold. =)

escape- It's a sign

YAY! I finally have a project to blog about!! Woot Woot! BUT...before I get to that: I want to thank all of you for your kind comments, encouragement, and support. I truly appreciate it! I have been SOO crazy busy the past week or so and haven't gotten to respond through email. I hope you will accept my 'group' thank-you!! =)

!OK!
I am gearing up for a show this weekend and spent the most part of Monday and all day Tuesday creating loot. I had 9! YES 9! Projects going today. *eee gads* I'm tired!

I will show pictures of them all at some point. But for now, here is the very last project I worked on today.
I did NOT take pictures along the way. I created, painted and sanded my brains out today. No time for any pictures but the finished product. Sorry. =(

Again, I used a cabinet door.
This is the first time I have used a solid white cabinet door.
I decided not to change the white.
Well...except with a little topcoat. =)

I gave it a light coat of Ace Hardware's Turquoise Bay.
I purchased it in a paint pod to see if I liked it.
Oh and I LIKE it!

Once dry, I sanded it to expose the white.
Oh yeah, shabby beach cottage feel.
I used Walnut Distress Ink and rubbed it
around the edges and across the front.
I can.not.lie~~>I {LOVE} Distress Ink.

Then, I added a dark brown Up Words & On Words vinyl design that I created.

~escape~
*if only it were this easy*

Here it is:

Sweet SUMMER time sign

Construction on two new homes is underway across the side street from us. Giddy doesn't even begin to explain how I felt when I saw them starting to frame the foundation of one. Sure...the pounding of nails, the power tools and off and on of the saw ALL DAY long kind of drives me nuts BUT...wood scraps galore I tell you! =)

The blue dumpster is sitting right next to our boulevard. Hmm...what's a girl to do once the construction boys have loaded up their work gear and left for the night??? HEE HEE HEE. I ain't too PROUD! I went dumpster diving!! Oh yeah~~>you read that right. I pitched scrap pieces of wood out on to the grass and my boys ran them back to the house. Now don't go getting all crazy thinking I'm teaching my kids bad things. It isn't a whole lot different then placing a "discarded" piece of furniture in your vehicle and driving it on home! =)

Here's some of the LOOT:

blocks and blocks of scrap wood.
=)

So I took a longer piece and painted it with Krylon's Watermelon:

I created an Up Words & On Words vinyl design and used my Silhouette to cut the design out in black vinyl.
I cut it twice on one piece of vinyl since I had to use an 8.5" wide piece anyway.

I applied the design to the wood using a hinge method.

Once the vinyl was on and secure, I added a layer of green paint mixture over the lettering. I created  the color using Fern Foliage craft paint, Jericho green from Ace Hardware and a little Besalt also from Ace Hardware. When that coat dried I removed the vinyl lettering. And of course...forgot a picture.
I sanded it with fine grit sandpaper. I used Black Soot Distress Ink on the edges. Then, I added "sweet" and "time".

HERE it is:

It's pretty thick (2") so it could be a shelf sitter on the mantle,
hung on the wall or placed in a plate stand.

However you choose to display it...IT is oh.so.sweet.summer.time.cute!

Thanks for stopping by!

Have a great day!

Old Window + Cabinet Door = {LOVE}

Yes! I am FINALLY getting on here to blog about a project! Oh yeah! In the words of my youngest son, "Big Boy Momma!" LOL

Anyway~~> I saw an idea similar to this when I was trolling through a local garden center. I fell in love and wanted SOOO badly to whip out my cell phone and take a picture. But the employee yammering on and on and on about the recent frost (a few weeks ago, now) in the area was nearly at my elbow. :( So, I stood there in awe. Mouth agape and all I'm sure. Taking in ALL the details. Of course their window was more weathered, missing a glass pane and oh so shabby chic meets country cottage garden Hanging ever so bravely. And breathe. AND of course their "shelf" was aged to perfection.

Mine will get there. It just needs to be left outside for-eva or put in a warm humid greenhouse with a bunch of overpriced lovely flowers. =) Anyhow. It is what it is and it's mine! Well...until I load it up later today and haul it to a little slice of heaven where I hope it will sell. (I will blog about this "slice" of heaven soon)

(sneak peak 'cuz I can't wait!)

Ok here's what I did. Follow along, it's intense. Not really! ha

I picked up both items from our local ReStore.
1 old window
1 large cabinet/cupboard door

I don't have a before picture of the window but the after window will do just fine.
Here is the cabinet door:

I sanded it a little just to get the shine off. I applied a coat of Ace Hardware's Besalt (very dark almost charcoal grey). Once dry I added a coat of SW's Divine White. I use DW because it's the color of my house trim. Two good reasons to use it...1) I have it already 2) It matches the trim
Once dry, I sanded it. The sanding exposed some of the original cabinet color as well as hints of dark grey. I then used Walnut Distress Ink to age and darken it some. Kind of give it the "dirty" weathered look.
I should have but didn't take a pic. I was so excited to see this done that I didn't take pictures. :(

With the old 6 pane window, I used my Dremel tool to expose the edges and remove some gunk. Nothing major. I wanted it chippier and more worn but wasn't gonna mess with the hassle. OR the fear of the unlying paint having lead in it. =) I used Distress Ink where I sanded. I also rubbed it on the front. I let it sit and then sanded it off. Which sort of sanded it in! Perfect!

I used Gorilla Wood Glue and glued the window to the center of the cabinet door. And let sit over night. Umm...it didn't work so well. But it was awkward and hard to create downward pressure. No biggie it worked well enough for what I needed it to do. I set the whole thing up on saw horses. Saw horses that I drug into my kitchen mind you! I pre-drilled holes and added three screws through the bottom and into the window. Oh YEAH!

*Disclaimer*
I am not a photographer. I WISH I were. So please enjoy what goodness there is in my pics. LOL. I would have taken it outside but the less I move it...the better for now!

And NOW:

I'd love to add hooks and a nice chain to the top and hang it! Oh.my!
Maybe if it sells, someone will do just that!

Whatta ya think??

Have a great day!

MIA this week

Sorry to you all! I have been soo busy this week. Between work (and a rain day) and well...life...this week I am running behind. I appreciate you all stopping by and leaving such great comments. I would respond but blogger still won't let me. I will be spending the next few days with my lil family catching up on some much needed family time so I will not be posting anything fun and exciting. My Mom and I did go thrifting and I have found some FUN stuff to "redefine" so keep checking back for those. =) Thank you all again so much!

In case you're new or have missed some of the projects I have already blogged about: here are some pictures. If you click them you should be taken right to the post. Enjoy!

Have a great day!
